RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists physician and/or nurse practitioner (NP) with exams, procedures, and/or minor surgeries. Takes vital signs and maintains medications and allergy sheets, charts in-patient’s medical records. Performs phlebotomy services, prepares specimens and directs to appropriate lab. Performs finger sticks, urinalysis, pregnancy tests, and other CLIA waived tests. Prepares and administers injections and medications as instructed by physician and/or NP. Tracks patient test results, communicates test results to the physician and/or NP, and to the patient when directed by physician and/or NP. Contacts pharmacy for drug refills and calls in prescriptions as directed by physician and/or NP. Obtains appropriate consent for procedures and surgeries. Maintains and cleans rooms between patients as well as maintains supplies such as lab forms, medical equipment and/or medications. Provides backup for front office as necessary.

Must follow accepted safety practices for patients and hospital; report safety hazards and initiate appropriate action and must participate in safety instructional programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
A current Louisiana Licensed Practical Nurse license is preferred. Must exhibit proficiency in nursing care and oral communications. Must be able to follow directions and to perform work according to department standards when no directions are given. Must be emotionally mature and able to function effectively under stress. Must successfully interact with other Team Members including physician.
